ABOUT:

MacKenna Lewis grew up in Seattle, Washington and moved east to earn her B.A. in English and Art History at Skidmore College. After graduating, she received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in Terengganu, Malaysia. She then worked as a florist, nanny, barista, photo assistant, and studio manager, while developing her career as a photographer.

Her documentary work explores themes of community, coming of age, and human connection. She began Stoop Life in 2019 to showcase found moments between friends and family that take place on the stoop and contribute to Brooklyn’s vibrancy and strong sense of community.

MacKenna graduated from the International Center of Photography’s Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism program in 2021, and she was a member of the Eddie Adams Workshop class of XXXIV. Her work was shown in ICP’s #ICPConcerned exhibition, and her clients include The Wing, Alma, and The New York Times. She has lived in Brooklyn, NY since 2016.
